Fabric
Main Fabric & Lining - You will need any medium weight woven (non-stretch) fabric such as quilting cotton, cotton, or poly cotton.
OPTIONAL Quiet Book Fabrics – You will need a non-fraying fabric such as felt for the decorations on each block (e.g. the volcano, the dinosaur, the frog etc.). If you are adding the OPTIONAL Lava to the Volcano you will need a lightweight fabric such as chiffon or georgette that will be the Fabric Lava inside the volcano.

- Approximately 1 ½ yards of thin and stable batting
- Optional 1 x yard of fusible webbing or iron-on adhesive, or fabric glue
- Optional 1 x yard of medium or light-weight fusible interfacing
- Optional ¼ yard of iron-on interfacing or pre-made webbing straps/ handles
- Optional 5 x ½ inch wide press studs / buttons for the roundabout flowers
- Optional 1 x yard of hook and loop tape (Velcro)
- Optional trims for deocrating - embroidery floss, fabric paints, buttons, ribbons etc
- Sewing machine, but it is possible to hand sew this pattern
- Needle for thicker projects

How do PDF/ digital patterns work? Simply download, print, and sew. You’ll need a free Adobe Acrobat reader program and any home printer (or a nearby copy shop for A0 printing). Once you’ve printed the pieces, tape or glue them together. You’ll find an easy-to-follow how-to guide inside the pattern instructions, plus support in our Facebook group.
The trim-free pattern comes in A4 or US letter printable sizes and includes full pattern pieces and a detailed tutorial to guide you every step of the way. An A0 format (pattern pieces only) is also included should you wish to have your pattern printed professionally. PDF Layers allow you to select and print only the size/s you want/ need.
When will I get my patterns? You’ll receive a link to download your patterns immediately after purchase. If you haven’t received it, please check your spam/ junk folder. You can also find your patterns in your ‘My Account’ area..

THis was a super fun make, and a great hit with my boys! Using the negative space for the roads makes this much easier to construct than I had expected. Adding all the quiet book blocks is a lot of fun. I opted to use fabric paint on some of the smaller items instead of cutting them out, and stitched a lot of the moveable things down.

This is a project of many parts! To a beginner it, at first, appears overwhelming but it is broken down brilliantly. I think a few more congratulations messages need to go through the instructions haha! I set myself goals, such as “cut materials for blocks 1-6”, “complete blocks 1-6”, “sew backing on all blocks and turn” and “stitch all egdes and blocks to road” as a way to see the project as smaller goals. I found the project less overwhelming this way. I have to say I absolutely love the finished product! It is easy to roll and store, super playable and great for young imaginations!

This was a beast of a project. I was able to complete the sewing part in two days. I don’t have a cutting machine so the small parts were difficult for me, I did use my embroidery machine to make some of the pieces (hopefully that’s not a hack). If it’s possible an embroidery file would be perfect to make the small pieces and parts. The pictures in the instructions were awesome but I did have to read the instructions a few times to make sure I understood. I like the personalization that can be made for each mat.

This was time consuming, but FUN to sew. Very straightforward (if you can sew a basic straight line, you can make this) and lots of room for creativity and personalizing. The possibilities are truly endless! I plan to make another and this time will be using a pre-quilted cotton backing, and making the blocks out of felt (seam allowance removed) to have a few less steps in the sew. This is going to be a great Christmas gift for little ones.

This was such a fun sew if I’d had time. I plan on making it again when I can take my time and enjoy the process. Overall the instructions were clear. The only thing I didn’t do was adding the white dashed lines on the road. My road fabric looked a bit like cobblestone, and I thought the markings would detract from that. I’m a quilter so I think that probably helped me with some of the process. 🙂

This impressive fold-up play mat can be made in a quick, undecorated version, in a fully interactive decorated version, or somewhere in-between, in as much detail as you desire. Toy vehicles can park in the underground parking for transport – the mat folds and rolls up to make it easy to carry wherever you go. Prepare to spend a week or two on this if you really go high on the decorations – that can be a lot of pieces to topstitch down! I personalized the one I made with a school, a church, and expanding the lake to be a river covering two blocks. All the work is worth it when you see how much the children love to play with it!
