This is probably the most time consuming item I have yet sewn, but partly my own fault by deciding to add all the extras in a contrast fabric. I have been saving the green vintage wool mix for the perfect coat and the Amsterdam is it. Although its very time consuming, its well explained and magic happens when joining the inner and outer coats!! You do need to be prepared to spend time on this, lots of pieces to cut and sew but well worth the effort.

What a confidence-building pattern! I took this on a little before I was ready for it (which is always the best time to do things), and as long as you read carefully and take it step-by-step, the results are gorgeous! For my next one, I’m definitely going to familiarize myself with a walking foot, but I love the results I got without it as well. Just remember, slow is smooth and smooth is fast, and don’t be afraid of the hand stitching!

I loved sewing the amsterdam coat. I think this is the project I am most proud of so far. The pattern is very well written and well illustrated. I highly recommend it.

One of my sewing goals for 2018 was to sew a coat. I chose the Amsterdam Coat because it would be a good sewing challenge that I wanted. I loved the princess seams, facings and full lining. I use a wool blend for the main outer fabric and floral and paisley peach skin for the lining. The directions and photos are very clear and thorough. I liked the tips along the way. There are some tricky parts, especially when it comes to setting in the sleeves. You just have to be sure you have the front sleeve facing the proper direction. The tutorial is very clear on how to check that. Overall it took abut 10 hours total and I learned a lot and am proud of my self for completing this self imposed challenge.

I never dreamed I would make a coat for my daughter but with the Amsterdam coat pattern it has become a reality! I was a bit intimidated at the prospect of this project but the instructions and pictures were very detailed and clear making it really easy to follow and complete. The sizing is spot on and the results are fantastic – people can not believe that is a handmade item!

I am so proud of this coat! This is one of those projects that I was nervous to even start. And after cutting all the pieces, I was even more worried. But I took a deep breath, had faith, and followed the instructions. And guess what? I made a coat! I feel like this pattern is definitely doable for anybody intermediate level or above. The results are simply stunning. The instructions were well laid out and every step described with pictures. So many fun details are included- a hood, sleeve tabs, a back belt, and these fun button loops on the front. The princess seaming on back and front give the coat a lovely shape. I have a feeling this will become a favorite!
